MADNESS AND CLUTTER

My writing area is cluttered with notebooks, papers, and writing utensils. I would feel freakish if my desk was squeaky clean. A cluttered desk is a reminder of the hundreds of things in my mind all at once. Is the plot right? Do I need this paragraph? Can I add a few more pictures?

Such is the mind of a writer. I wonder how I can juggle all the characters into people that can really exist?  At other times, I say to myself 'Are you nuts?' Despite the paradoxes I find myself in, I love all the insanity.  I say to myself 'there's a method to my madness.' And, in most cases, it works.

WORDS OF WISDOM

The truth is, we all face hardships of some kind, and you never know the struggles a person is going through. Behind every smile, there's a story of a personal struggle.

FLESHING OUT DEMONS

Lately, the stories I have or am writing is about struggle. The character is battling with inner demons. Two of the stories deal with two people considering suicide.

I enjoy fleshing out the things that the subject is struggling with and how they deal with it. When I listen to folks who have accomplished something, I like to know the struggles they went through. Struggle makes a person stronger, as they seek resolution. When they do find it, it's a victory for them.

WORDS OF WISDOM

After working as a journalist I went to a writing program at Johns Hopkins. It was interesting because it was neither journalistic nor historical, but it emphasized writing style, and afterward I was asked to write my first book.
