WORDS OF WISDOM

I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value.

USING FAMILIAR PLACES AS BACKDROPS

Last night I visited a restaurant which I am using in a short story I'm developing. I will dine there just to get a feel of the place. I've done this plenty of times in the past and I enjoy doing it. The theme is about the subject meeting an old friend unexpectedly. Still working on the plot.

CHERISH THE SUNSET

Watching the sunset is one of the many wonders of nature. It signals the end pf another day, whether it was good or a disaster.

One way I see a sunset is when there are changes to be made in my life. The old is going. Old habits, thoughts and viewpoints. New habits will need to be cultivated. Perhaps there are new people to meet, new experiences to go through. No two sunsets are alike.

William Shakespeare's HAMLET is my favorite of all his plays. Hamlet see the sun setting on the world he's always known. He laments the new world coming. Instead of embracing the sunset, he finds himself caught between two different worlds.

Sunsets aren't gloom and doom. Like the chapter in a book, the story ends but a new one may be waiting. If it is the end of the book, my viewpoint and are different from when I started. I cherish the sunset because I'm different from when the day began.

WORDS FROM THE IMMIGRANTS

I'm curious to see what kind of writing will emerge from the immigrants in detention centers. Tough situations have created some of the most intense and poignant poetry and stories.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Two roads diverged in a wood and I-I took the one less traveled on and that has made all the difference.

BLUE HORSES

Just finished reading Mary Oliver's Blue Horses poems. Want to read again her other poetry collection, Dog Stories. It was this book that got interested in her work. Ms. Oliver is one my favorite poets.

WORDS OF WISDOM

A friend is someone who gives you the total freedom to be yourself.

~Jim Morrison, Musician (1943-1971)

INVISIBLE

I was downtown in Greenwich Village last evening. There are still the bohemian roots that put Greenwich Village on the map. I was a regular here in the late 1960s and early 1970s. My footprints are here so I' m a part of its history.

When I'm here at night I feel like a ghost; I'm here but am not seen. As a writer invisibility is a plus.

JIM MORRISON (1943-1971)

On this date in 1971, Jim Morrison, the front man of the rock group, The Doors, was found dead in the bathroom of his apartment in Paris, France at age of 27. I found out about it a couple of weeks later. Morrison was the third rock star to die within a year. The drug deaths of Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin preceded his demise.

Jim Morrison was charasmatic, creative, outrageous, brilliant, and sensitive. He was a poet at heart who used rock to share his words. The Doors music was quite different from other groups in that one cpludn't really define it. Morrison was the originator of their brand.

I listened to a number of interviews he gave
When sober, Morrison possessed much depth to me, something sorely lacking with today's musicians. It's sad that drugs , alcohol, and excess robbed him of his vitality.

I am drawn to off beat characters and Jim Morrison certainly was a character. He was thoughtful and brilliant yet saw what the world was coming to, especially in the music industry. He was right in that assessment.

Mr. Mojo Risin! Rest in Peace.
