LOSING SMALL ARTISTIC PLACES.

I passed by the 13th Street theater today. It's an off off Broadway theater nestled between Fifth and Sixth Avenue. I've never been in the establishment but it reminded me of the numerous small venues that are slowly disappearing. High rents are driving these places out of business. I get the changing tastes but that is not always the case. The city is losing its artistic chops to develops and those who believe that art can only created by those with money and influence.

I do support places like this because it's where struggling writers,  actors, and artists can get their work heard, seen, and performed. There's much creativity and artistry out there. I'm happy that my place of worship has month classical concerts. More places are needed.

NEW COURSE

I don't know if changing from one style of writing is a gradual process or a sudden change of direction. Last evening I wrote three poems about truth and respect.

I suspect that life's events will alter an author's course. The great poet, Robert Lowell, did it at least four times during his lifetime. I will see how this develops.

WORDS OF WISDOM

As a writer you must never indulge your audience. The audience is your adversary. You must defeat them, which means your writing must have the power to change them.

THOMAS CHATTERLEY

I am fascinated by the tragic short life of Thomas Chatterley (1752-1770). I'm presently researching more on his life.

MORE POETRY

Am still writing three poems daily. Some days I write more. My inner feelings are Coming out through poetry. This may turn out to be a life changing endeavor.

I started reading the Collected Poems of D.H. Lawrence. Never read his work before. He is more known for his novels, especially Lady Chatterley's Lover.

BEGINNING AGAIN

I am picking up this book later this evening. I read Julia Cameron's previous book 'Artist's Way' which I highly recommend. I'm sure her current book will be just as good.

POETS HOUSE

I need to get back to the Poets House again. It's been at least 2 1/2 years since I was there last. It can get downright cold in the area since the place is across the street from the Hudson River.

Poets House has the largest collection of chapbooks I have ever seen. Also has tons of poetry books from poets all over the world. I have gone to a couple of recitals there. There are classes, talks, seminars and children's programs. I will get back to Poets House very, very soon.
