WORDS OF WISDOM

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

WORDS OF WISDOM

The poet gives us his essence, but prose takes the mold of the body and mind.

Virginia Woolf, British Author (1882-1941)

WRITERS CONFERENCE

I have never attended a writers conference but will do so in the near future. I often wonder what happens there and what to expect. I guess like any new venture, I need to put my preconceived notions aside and go with an open mind and heart.

PAUL LAURENCE DUNBAR

Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906) is all but forgotten in today's literature. Yet he wrote some amazing poetry. I'm currently researching more about him. Dunbar was criticized  by some black authors for writing some poetry in African dialect which, he admitted, he did not speak.  The criticism, I believe, was because black folk who be perceived as illiterate and unable to speak proper English.

It may explain my interest in his work. I also see it as his keen insight on his understanding of dialectic language. Some folks did speak that way. The criticism was unjust, in my mind. Denying what actually was part of the slaves lives in America does them no justice.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.

~Robert H. Schuller, Clergyman (1926-2015)
