Picking a place as a backdrop for a story/novel shouldn't be difficult. It can be an exotic island, airplane, basement, a town or an old castle. Wherever the place the story still has to maintain the readers interest.
I like lighthouses and castles. The latter is especially great for settings in horror stories. I wrote a story several years ago with a basement as the setting. The subject went from feeding a fetish to self -discovery and then liberation.
I enjoy walking past old abandoned buildings. At one time people were living or working there. I wonder how many stories were made there? If only the walls could talk.

OTHER ERAS
Do you ever wish that you lived in the time and place of your favorite authors? I am a fan of the Beat Generation. Their heyday was from the late 1940s to early 1960s. Jack Kerouac is my favorite of that group which included Allen Ginsberg, William S. Burroughs and others.
As a thought I can put myself back in that time through imagination. I wonder what it would have been to live in William Shakespeare's time? It's great to study and research the times these authors lived in. It's easy to see a particular generation through 21st century eyes, and that's not good. It would muddle up the scene these authors lived.
I'm grateful for the many, many authors who lived in different times and spaces. Their influence still resonates today. If Jack Kerouac were alive today I would thank him him for putting me on the road to imagination and adventure.

MYSTERIES
I enjoy reading mysteries from time to time. I read the 'Manhattan Noir' and 'Brooklyn Noir' series. On occasion I will write a mystery.
In writing one can be as sinister and mysterious as I like. Horror stories are the same way. I've read Agatha Christie's books. Edgar Allan Poe is one of my favorite authors. He wrote some great mysteries. Maybe it's time for me to write one.

MORE MOVIES
I'm more of a reader than a movie buff but maybe I need to see more movies. I prefer independent movies as I find many American movies garbage.

WORDS OF WISDOM
A poet is a nightingale, who sits in darkness and sings to cheer its own solitude with sweet sounds.

NATIONAL POETRY MONTH
April is National Poetry Month. Time to to dust off those old notebooks and read some poems. Perhaps some new ones will be written. Who are your favorite poets? What poets have influenced you?
Sylvia Plath, Rumi, Edgar Allan Poe, John Milton, William Shakespeare, and Paul Laurence Dunbar are some poets who have influenced me.

WORDS OF WISDOM
The best advice I ever got was that knowledge is power and to keep reading. ~David Bailey
