Why Do I Write?

Today I was at the library browsing the poetry and literature sections. So many authors, some many diverse voices. I'm currently reading a book by beat writer Jack Kerouac. Last night I read some historical fact about Edgar Allan Poe. Two different authors, two diverse views on life.

I have read the work of some great authors; Neil Simon, Chekhov, Shakespeare, Herman Melville to mention a few. Just thinking about it now I ask Why do I write? I'm sure every writer has asked him/herself this question. For myself the only answer I can give is that I enjoy it. Each writer has his/her reasons.

With newer generations of writers the same question is liable to be asked again Why do I write?  People will read their if they like the author. That's why books, I believe, will never be out of vogue.
