TRUMBULL STICKNEY
Promising poet who died young.
Born in Geneva, Switzerland on June 20, 1874
Struggling to reconcile his academic and literary passions
First American to win the Doctorat es Letters from the Sorbonne
Died October 11, 1904 from a brain tumor
POEM
The Passions that Fought with and Subdued
The passions that we fought with and subdued
Never quite die. In some maimed serpent's coil
They lurk, ready to spring and vindicate
That power was once our torture and our lord.
