POEM

 ALONENESS

I'm acquainted with it

I'm not lonely

I enjoy being by myself

A solitary figure in the sea of life.

I trek to places I'm intimate with

Washington Square Park

St. Mark's Place. Port Authority.

The Forty-Deuce

Christopher Street Pier.

Even in these crowded environs

I can find solitude

Shutting out all the distractions

Like a caterpillar in a cocoon.
