CHOOSING NAMES FOR CHARACTERS

Yesterday I was looking at boys and girls' names for a future story. I chose two names which I believe will fit the character's profiles. When scouring through girls' names, my eyes fixed on the name 'Chloe'. With the boy's name, it took a little longer until I settled on 'Nathan'.  I cannot share the story yet because I haven't written it. I felt comfortable with these names and now I will develop character traits for each person.

I like developing characters as they move on to new adventures. Sometimes it's hard to choose to use the same name or change it. Prolific Beat writer Jack Kerouac did this on numerous occasions. Conversely, mystery writer Agatha Christie was the same person though the story was different. Picking the right name for the character is important to me. If I feel comfortable with it I'll proceed. If not, I'll change it.
