Book Review

Title: Death of a Tranvestite
Author: Edward D.Wood
Written: 1967
Rating: 6.5

I read the book more out of curiosity and my love of quirky characters. Ed Wood certainly was one. The book was one of several pulp fiction books he wrote. Death of a Transvestite is the story of Glen/da Marker, a hit man on the run from the Syndicate.  He makes it out to Hollywood and is able to explore his other alter ego, Glenda Satin. One thread that runs throughout the book is Glenda's love for angora sweaters and satin panties. This was very true in Ed Wood's life.

Glen Marker was able to escape the hit man hunting him,  killing him. Glen could not escape his final fate-the electric chair. To me, Glenda had the last word- being to die in the women's clothing she so loved.

I gave Death of a Transvestite a 6.5 rating. It's  to be one of my all time favorites but it's better than I thought. Ed Wood was trashed as lousy director and terrible writer but he is a compelling author because of his idiosyncrasies. I like that very much. I may read Ed Wood's other books.
