WORDS OF WISDOM

Writing is not a matter of choice. Writers have to write. It is somehow in their temperament, in the blood, in tradition.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Your writing voice is the deepest possible reflection of who you are. The job of your voice is not to seduce or flatter or make well-shaped sentences. In your voice, you readers should be able to hear the contents of your mind, your heart, your soul.

~Meg Rosoff, Writer

WRITING ANYWHERE

One of my favorite places to write is in a coffee shop. I see all kinds of people enter to get their java, tea, or a sweet treat. If one of them piques my interest, I will scribble down a description of him or her. What they are wearing, their voice and mannerisms, and their physical features.

I have sat in coffee shops for a few hours writing and taking in all the activity swirling around me. I remember visiting a Starbucks and stared at a collage of famous writers in the same space writing, drinking a beverage, smoking, and talking. I saw myself in that picture. I would dearly love to sit in a coffee shop with like-minded people sharing ideas and critiques.
